Tizzard calls it a day & the Irish flat gets underway

The flat season looms & an attractive card at Lingfield on Saturday gave us an insight of things to come. The Spring Cup saw William Haggas, summon the talents of Ertijaal, who was a step ahead of the pace throughout. American Hope imposed an impressive late challenge to try & knock Ertijaal, but to no avail. Lots of Grandeur mentions as he looked like the one to beat after he had seen of a number of his opposition last month. Robin Hoods Bay managed to reverse the form, driving from the middle of the pack to snatch the win from Windhoek. Grandeur never got involved. The Irish flat season got underway on Sunday with Curragh doing the honours. Picking a winner can be tricky at the start of the season. A tough day at the office rounds things up for most. None the less there were a few pointers to take.  The UK flat season is ready & waiting with Cheltenham behind us. Next Saturday Doncaster holds the Lincoln Handicap to get things underway.

TheDon't You Just Love Downpatrick Hurdle got off to a blistering pace, set by market leader, Un Beau Matin. Ironically, may have impaired his jumping to begindipping quite badly on landing over the first, however Paul Carberry soon had the favourite ticking over productively & made all to win. A quick double for Carberry having got Taglietelle up in the first.

Another unfortunate loss from the darker side of horse racing as Tiqris took a gut wrenching fall. Opening up odds on before a small drift to even money. Held at the back, Tiqris tracked the pack, improving stride by stride. James Best was poised & patient, cruising has never had a fitter title. Regards go to Philip Hobbs & connections. Vicente went on to win for Nicholls & was eased before the line, chased home by Gold Ingot.

Last week Joe Tizzard announced, he is hanging up the boots, & will be sorely missed by many. Had Cue Card not been sidelined we may have got more from him, but like he said "I think you know when the time's up". He will still make his mark in racing, assisting father Colin with training & the family dairy farming business. It will be interesting to see who gets called up to take Cue Card to victory next season. No doubt plenty of talent knocking at the door for the opportunity.

Cheltenham Festival Review

Well folks, that's that for another year. There's been up's, down's, smiles & frownsJudging by the general consensus, from a financial point of view, it's been a difficult one. That doesn't take away from the success of the festival & a wonderful four days, spectating the biggest talents in jump racing. The infamous Cheltenham roar signalled the start of an action packed week that lay ahead. It was a real thriller to get things started, & a race I had been particularly looking forward to, the Supreme Novices' Hurdle. Willie Mullins arguably led the Irish invasion with a force to be reckoned with. Classy novices such as Wicklow Brave, Vatour, Annie Power & Faugheen. Not to mention Cheltenham veteran, Quevega & Champion hurdler, Hurricane Fly. It wasn't going to be easy, up against the likes of Big Buck's, The New One, My Tent Or Yours trained by Nicky Henderson, Paul Nicholls & Nigel Twiston-Davies for the home team.

Mullins & Ruby got off to a flyer, opening the meeting with an impressive front leading run from Vatour. I thought we would have seen more from Wicklow, but he never really got the chance to get through the gears. Irving also didn't show the same form as last time out. The feature race of the day boasted an incredible array of talent. Hurricane Fly lined up to smash the stats & further cement his name in racing history. Lots of noise had been made of Henderson's My Tent Or Yours, McCoy booked for the ride would have fans of the champ confident in their gamble. Owner J P McManus couldn't grumble as he watched two of his horses chase each other home. The winner coming from Barry Geraghty & Jezki. McCoy having the option over the two McManus beasts was left kicking himself, an unfortunate trend that would be prominent for McCoy this festival. Unfortunately it wasn't smiles all round as Our Conor, who ran prominent & set a fast pace from the get go, fell at the third out. The fall was fatal. Many of your hearts will have been won over by the talents of Our Conor from last year's festival when he won the JCB Triumph Hurdle, winning by an impressive 15 lengths. He will be missed sorely by many. RIP Our Conor.

There was a Ruby Walsh, Willie Mullins pattern emerging as the duo opened the second day with a winner for Ireland again. This time with the wonderfully talented, Faugheen. His jumping can be questionable at times, but his ability to recover & finish strong is indubitableNext up was the RSA chase. Doubts surrounded the favourite Ballycasey, after a fall during schooling. Your guess is as good as mine as to whether Ballycasey's confidence was knocked , but you can't take anything away from the heart of O'Faolains boy, who battled right to the line to beat Smad Place by a head to take the prize money home for Rebecca Curtis. Another win for the home team & marked the second of the festival for Barry Geraghty. Morning assembly ran & stayed well to claim a placeIt will be interesting to see where he goes next for Pat Fahy. Many were quick to dismiss Sire De Grugy's chances of getting up the hill in the Queen Mother Champion Chase. With a bit of festival zest & workman like style, Sire De Grugy powered up the hill to silence doubters & delight trainer Gary Moore & connections. Sire De Grugy was only one of two favourites to prevail on day two. Bryan Cooper took a bad fall on Clarcam in the Fred Winter Juvenile Handicap Hurdle. Cooper suffered compound fracture in his leg bringing his festival hopes to an abrupt end, missing his gold cup ride, Last Instalment. Josh Hamer suffered a broken collarbone when brought down on Akdam (RIP). Another fatality for the negative side of the festival.

On Thursday Ireland were trailing with respect to winners. The opener was champion jockey, A P McCoy's time to deliver. His winner coming from his partnership with Jonjo O'Neill. Sending out Taquin Du Seuil. Jonjo had a rather successful festival sending out 3 winners finishing behind Willie Mullins for most trained winners. The feature of the day was the world hurdle. 11 year old big bucks was favourite to retain his title in the anti post markets, until some Willie Mullins fire was injected into the race in the form of highly talented mare, Annie Power. Immediately declared favourite with a mares allowance, looked like she was going to get the job done. The 15/8 price was quickly thrashed into 11/8 which she went off at. Mullins trained, Ruby booked, no doubt many punters "banker" of the weekend. Even though never winning at that distance, punters were confident. Whether it was the trip, Ruby, "following the wrong horse" or just beaten by the better horse on the day, it wasn't to be. Barry Geraghty & Jonjo teamed up to take the title on More Of That. A real gutsy performance, battled Annie Power up the hill to claim victory for great Britain. At Fishers Cross finished up behind the battling pair & is starting to get back to the form we saw last season.

Money was flying in on Friday morning for the likes of Irish Royal Hussar & Calipto respectively & the market suggested it was going to be between these two. Just like almost every race of the festival, the market was wrong. Paul Nicholls' Calipto travelled well & might just have got there had the stirrup not broke, forcing Daryl Jacob to ride rodeo to get Calipto over the line, in a respectable fourth place considering the circumstances. None the less, an impressive ride by Davey Russell on Tiger Roll as he powered up the hill to land the prize money for his former boss. Tiger roll was impressive in only his third race, second behind Guitar Pete (who came 3rd in the race) last time out when Cooper had lost the whip & still managed to get him up there. Henderson trained, Kentucky Hyden notched up another second, who's form (last five starts) reads 1-2-2-2-2. frustrating for Henderson no doubt. Ruby Walsh rode Abbyssial & led the field until the second out where he took a bad fall and was trampled by those behind him. Ruby got up & it was immediately apparent it was bad. Later it was revealed a compound fracture of the right arm would rule him out for the remainder of the festival & for the rest of the season. After Daryl Jacob claimed his first victory in the Vincent O'Brien County Handicap aboard Lac Fontana, his festival was only getting started when a freak accident occurred on his next ride. Jacob was riding Port Melon to the starting line when the horse seemed to get spooked & bucked Jacob (narrowly missing the crowd & taking out a C4 camera man) tossing him onto the concrete. An uncomfortable hush filled the stadium as the screens were assembled around Jacob for ten minutes as proceedings were on hold, as the young jockey was treated before being stretchered away in an ambulance to the sound of applause from the crowds. A broken knee, elbow & arm was the extent of the damage & another jockey added to injury list.

The sun was holding out in time for the gold cup to be run. Again on paper it seemed to be between a few. Bobs Worth was popular for obvious reasons. Similarly for Silviniaco Conti when going well before falling in the Betfair Chase. There were numerous jockey changes due to the manic day. Geraghty was travelling well on Big Buck's but perhaps wasn't jumping as fluently as some would like. Similarly, Silviniaco Conti travelled well and seemed to have every chance throughout the race. Lord Windermere was niggled along at the back of the field from early on & was at the back for the majority of the race. On the final turn from home a quartet led by Silviniaco Conti, followed closely by Bob's Worth, On His Own, Lyreen Legend, With The Giant Bolster, TeaForThree, Triolo D'alene & Lord Windermere all staying on close behind. It really was open with claims being made for all respectively. Over the last Bob's worth veered quite violently to the right & Geraghty had to straighten him up, losing some momentum. In the final strides of the race, Lord Windermere, Own His Own & The Giant Bolster were the three with most momentum as the line came, a real thrilling finish saw Davey Russell take his second of the day to win the Gold Cup on 20/1 shot, Lord Windermere. There was a stewards inquiry as claims were made that Davey Russell interfered with On His Own, denying him a straight run in. Punters were piecing together ripped up slips as the verdict came in. Unchanged. I hope everyone has enjoyed this year's festival and have worked out some pieces of the puzzle for next season as new stars begin to emerge.

Day 4 Cheltenham Pointers

fingal bay photograph finish

Day 3 was a good one for us with the highlights being taking the first two races of the day, Taquin Du Seuil coming home under McCoy at 9/1 and Fingal Bay winning at 8/1. Especially pleased for Fingal Bay as is a horse we have always admired and it is great to see him back to his best and showing what he is really made of. The day could have been a phenomenal if Annie Power could have upside More of That but it wasn't to be, and one of our best bets of the festival went down the pan. Tomorrow we have our best bet of the week in the shape of The Gold Cup, let's hope it makes up for Annie Power disappointment.

1.30 JCB Triumph Hurdle:

Abbyssial 16/1 EW (4 places uni bet)

Not without question marks, especially with the faster ground and unknown but that is not to say won't get it and has shaped very well indeed on all last 3 starts in Ireland, winning a Grade 2 at Leopardston most recently. Should have more to come and with the extra furlong an added bonus looks a decent bet at the prices.

Plinth 18/1 EW (4 places unibet)

Interesting runner for Aidan O'Brien, and with just the two starts over hurdles to name offers promise of further improvement to come. Made a winning start under McCoy on penultimate start before racing a bit sloppily and with the cheekpieces added here has a good chance at again a good ew price, as with our first runner.

OFFERS

– Paddy Power are offering money back if your horse finishes 2nd or 3rd in this race

2.05 Vincent OBrien County Handicap Hurdle:

Arctic Fire 7/1 EW (5 places with several bookies)

Anybody who knows us well knows we love an unexposed horse and that comment applies to this Mullins/Walsh horse who has just the 4 UK starts under the belt. Highly regarded by connections, and performed with great credit in two Grade 1 races in Ireland over the winter.Had a break and steps up in trip with Ruby Wlash back on board for first time since first run and if can handle the occasion should be right there at the finish.

2.40 Albert Bartlett Novices Hurdle:

 Kings Palace 4/1

The Mullins/Walsh horse at the top of the market is a fair favourite but price looks a tad too cramped for our liking and should have a fair old duel with our selection for David Pipe. This race could swing the jockey's standings in Tom Scu's favour if he can grab a win on Kings Palace, and with conditions to suit and having poved goes well at this track last two starts looks a healthy enough price to take a chance.

Signed up today actually as they are doing risk free £30 for signing up i.e. if your bet loses they will give you miney back as cash. Seem okay so far as a bookies. Click here to claim

– William Hill also going £25 on 2nd places as they have been doing all week, so we will be loading up here.

3.20 Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup Chase :

  Bobs Worth 2/1 NAP

Personally would be a great result as have invested in the ante post prices, but at 2/1 still rates a superb chance and has to be our bet of the day. Bound to be a popular selection tomorrow and we just fancy to get the better of Silviniaco Conti who is bound to have his supporters, as he should do! Won this race last year in stupendous fashion, and given his Cheltenham record of 5 wins from 5 course visits its incredibly hard to look past the Nicky Henderson horse. Lacklustre reappearance at Haydock but showed the benefit of that pipeopener when beating First Lietenant in the Lexus a month later. Keep an eye out for those special offers which we will update on here as and when we get them but trading at over 2/1 on the exchanges don't take anything too short until the bookies all catch up.

4.00 CGA Foxhunter Chase Challenge Cup:

Oscar Delta 10/1 EW (4 places with bet365 & Sky Bet so far)

Few would begrudge Jane Mangan making up for last year, when cruelly denied by a cruel twist of fete when she was unseated with the race all but won.Clearly been targeting this race for revenge this year by connections, and with two adequate warm up runs should be absolutely bang on for this. With a couple bookies paying out 4 places for ew prices, 10/1 is very generous indeed. There probably should be a few more bookies to follow suit.

4.40 Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys Handicap Hurdle:

Leo Luna 20/1 EW (5 places with several bookies)

Moore family had their time in the sun earlier in the week but can finish with a flourish here and Joshua Moore can take victory for his dad this time. Returned from a few month on the sidelines to run an eye catching stormer and back in a handicap from a mark of 135 we just can't resist a bet.

The Skyfarmer 16/1 EW (5 places with several bookies)

Won a class 3 handicap around here in December, pulling 4 lengths clear of 2nd and 31 lengths clear of 3rd on that day. Went to Ascot next and performed admiraly in a Grade 2 hurdle where ground did not look to suit, so coming back to Cheltenham and back on to better ground looks to have a superb chance tomorrow.

5.15 Grand Annual Chase Challenge Cup:

Raya Star 12/1 EW (5 places with several bookies)

been competing in grade 2 races of late and now entered into handicap for the Alan King team catches our eye.Only won a beginners chase to be talked of and will have to jump well to get involved but had a nice little pipe clenser at Newbury last month and should be bang on to make a bold challenge here.

We will be adding a few more bets and offers in here over night so do come back and check!

Cheltenham Day 3 Pointers

Day 2 was always going to be a tough one as outlined in yesterday's blog but it was a disappointing one for us and bit of pressure to deliver on the last two days of the festival. As always we won't go chasing bets and tomorrow looks a decent day for punters and a day for a few multiples across the day. We have gone through the racecard with a fine toothcomb in order to find the best betting angles and hopefully tomorrow we can celebrate a few winners.

1.30 JLT Novices Chase:

Silk

 Taquin Du Seuil 9/1 EW.

Won here in November beating Oscar Whiskey by a neck and they should be closely matched tomorrow but we are siding with the value in our selection. Some may argue that Oscar Whisky should have won that day but we are not convinced. He went a bit off the boil by his standards next two times out but it was hard not to be impressed with the demolishing fashion of the field at Hayrdock in January. Should remain ultra competitive at a track he is proven at and at 9/1 looks a very good ew bet.

OFFERS

 – Sky Bet are offering money back up to £25 if the favourite wins this race.

– Racebets are offering money back upto £25 if Wonderful Charm wins this race.

2.05 Pertemps Network Final:

Silk

Fingal Bay 8/1 EW (5 places with most bookies).

Top class Novice hurdler in 2011, and there was a lot of anticipation around him switching to fences but things didn't go to plan, few will forget who he ran out an Exeter so it was great to see him back over hurdles and winning on his return after over a year on the sidelines, beating If In Doubt by half a length. Should come on for that run and 6lb higher can show his true class and confirm his earlier promise.Has won around Cheltenham before over slightly shorter so shouldn't have a problem on that front.

Grand Vision 14/1 EW (5 places with most bookies).

Running into fitness since returning to action in January.Shouldn't be judged too harshly on recent defeat when down in trip and at the prices we fancy to run a big race and possibly slip under the radar as does not have that many miles on the clock and could pull a big performance out the bag.

2.40 Ryanair Chase:

Benefficient 4/1(9/2 at 8.30am with William Hill).

The top 3 in this should by no means be underestimated but both Al Ferof and Dynaste do have questions to answer after recent runs and we feel Benefficient is the best option.Won The Jewson at last year's festival beating Dynaste in the process and after a few disappointments was right back on track at Leoparstown winning well and has had a break since in preparation for this event. Be on the look out for a big price offered in the morning by the bookies.

3.20 Ladbrokes World Hurdle –

Annie Power 7/4 NAP (New Paddy Power customers can get at 7/1, click here)

Over quarter of a million pounds up for grabs here and it looks like a duel up between the 6 year old Annie Power against the older more experienced 11 year old in the form of Paul Nicholls Big Bucks. We have always been of the opinion leading up to the festival that Annie Power was unmissable in terms of betting it was just a matter of where Willie Mullins decided to place her and he was very coy about this leading up to the festival. Big Bucks lies in the hearts of many people, and after missing last year's festival returned to action with a decent 3rd in the Cleeve Hurdle but this demands more and it remains to be seen whether retains all of ability.Annie Power comes here unbeaten in 10 starts including once at Cheltenham earlier this year and now upped in trip to 3miles is a very exciting prospect and we are going to put our balls on her here.

OFFERS

– Paddy Power are offering MONEY BACK if your horse finishes second to Annie Power. Looks a great opportunity to bet on Big Bucks with a huge safety net. Max stake is £100 so we would advise that alloted amount on BB.

– Place a SP bet on Annie Power to win the World Hurdle and if she wins by over 4 Lengths betfred will pay you out at double the SP odds, upto £500

– Ladbrokes are offering money back as a free bet on ALL horses if Annie Power wins upto £25

4.00 Byrne Group Plate:

Third Intention 16/1 EW (5 places with several bookies)

One of the week's wide open events and we have gone with two horses that can run a decent race at their prices. This is Third Intention's first try at a handiccap chase  and we really fancy him to go well for the Tizzard team.Twice a course victor once over the fences looks well handicapped from a mark of 143 with the cheekpieces being added tomorrow.

Champion Court 14/1 EW (5 places with several bookies)

Saddles top weight but has a talented 7lb claimer in the saddle and now just a couple lb higher than when scoring in the Grade 2 Silver Trophy Chase over these fences in April last year.Been a little out of form of late but looks the type to be able to bounce back and is a very handy price.

4.40 Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Challenge Cup Handicap Chase:

Twirling Magnet 18/1 EW (5 places ew with several bookies)

Impressed when winning a novice event in October and is easy to forgive latest effort at Ascot so returned to Cheltenham, running from a fair mark is interesting and again especially at the prices.Drying conditions should be in his favour so with forecast in his favour looks a decent bet to us.

Buddy Bolero 20/1 EW (5 places with several bookies)

Interesting now going back chasing for David Pipe and looks well handicapped from a mark of 142 and first time blinkers on.Ran very well at last year's festival finishing 4th in the National Hunt Chase and a big run can be expected tomorrow under Katie Walsh

MULTIPLES

Felix Younger/Al Ferof/Annie Power all to place at 4/1 with Paddy Power. Advising double stake on this placed treble.

Cheltenham Day 2 Pointers

Day 1 at Cheltenham today went a bit flat for us was filled with what if story's and what might have been and we will be looking for much better tomorrow:

1.30 Neptune Investment Management Novices Hurdle – Royal Boy 7/1 EW NR Replacement Red Sherlock 5/1 EW(may be 4 places from some bookies tomorrow)- Nicky Henderson horses were in great nick today, and that only strenthens the claims of Royal Boy who looks a fantastic EW steal.Hurdles form taken off this season and still more progress to come. With Royal Boy being announced as a NR this morning our attention drifts to a horse we were debating in the first place to oppose the short price fav and the unbeaten Pipe 5 year old ticks the boxes as one to run a big race. We are inclined to increase our stake slightly to cover the EW bet as we believe will go close once more.

OFFERS:

Skybet are offering money back up to £25 if the fvourite wins. Advice – back Red Sherlock to win max stake

2.05 RSA Chase – Ballycasey 6/1 EW / Le Bec 16/1 EW (4 places unibet & Willhill so far).Ballycasey impressed since going chasing and won with moderate ease last time so this extra yardage should be no problem at all. trainer has a great record in this race and should go off quite a warm favourite. Le Bec is more of an outside chance but has winning C&D form and is still unexposed over fences.

2.40 Coral Cup – Indevan 25/1 EW / Waaheb 20/1 EW (5 places most bookies). Fiercely competitive stuff so do be careful when having a bet.Waaheb back to winning ways at Cork in cheekpieces and should be better for the run here. Indevan has been a little disappointing over the winter but has been given a break, Walsh back on and looks a decent ew bet.

3.20 Queen Mother Champion Chase – Captain Conan 5/1 EW – Obviously the absence of Sprinter Sacre opens up the betting here but we can't be quite having Sire De Grugy at 5/2 and the value in this is with selection Captain Conan for Nicky Henderson. Impresses with his sound jumping and looked as if for parts of reappearance would finish ahead of SDG but tired close to the line and better can be expected here.

OFFERS:

Racebets – If Sire De Grugy wins the Queen Mother Champion Chase, we will give you a free bet token equal to your losing stake, up to a max of £25.Advice back Captain Conan at 5/1 with max stake.

4.00 Glenfarclas Handicap Chase – Star Neuville 8/1 EW – Highly encouraging return at Fairyhouse last month over hurdles and back in a handicap from bottom weight catches the eye greatly as one to go one to better things from bottom weight.

4.40 Fred Winter Juvenile Handicap Hurdle Orgilgo Bay 20/1 EW / Ivan Grozny 12/1 EW (5 places with several bookies)- Market will be useful tomorrow but we have chosen two horses that we feel will run a big race at their price. IG has impressed for the Mullins/Walsh team since arriving for France and there is the feeling that there is yet better to come and goes slightly up in trip with the first time tounge tie on. Another horse that wears the first time headgear, this time in the form of a hood, again for the Irish.Made a steady start to hurdling career and again should be more to come.

Cheltenham Day 1 Pointers

So here we are again, Cheltenham Day 1 has again come round and what promises to be a fantastic week of racing is upon us. The purposes of these blogs will be to bring out our selections in each race that we feel are worth your investment. Due to the ante post markets, our philosophy is not to find overly priced runners, and thus if you are a trader we are not advising you follow these to trade off. The great thing about the big festivals is a late drift does not warrant our horse being added to the three leg club! We have also included the best offers around and how to take advantage of them the most profitably.

1.30 Sky Bet Supreme Novices Hurdle – Irving 4/1. Our money has been down on Irving for a few weeks now and our opinion has not changed in that time and thoroughly looking forward to watching his run tomorrow. Albeit, have heard several comments about yet to see Cheltenham hill etc etc, but the way he won with consummate ease at kempton in February suggests he has the speed that is required for this test and price is fair in our eyes. Ground has been drying out and this will be in selections favour. There will certainly be the people who want to back against Irving and is currently trading at 4.4 on betfair.

OFFERS – Be clever, use the following offers and use further selections to meet the roll over requirements:

– Sky Bet are offering money back if the favourite wins this race up to £25. Advice – back with max stake on the 2nd fav at SP price.

– Paddy Power will refund stakes on the 2nd, 3rd & 4th placed horses upto £50. Advice – back with max stake on Irving

2.05 Racing Post Arkle Challenge Trophy Chase – Trifolium 9/2.Champagne Fever got us off to winning start last year but as still has a bit to prove over fences 11/4 is just a touch on the short side for us thus we have just been edged by selection. Trifolium really impressed with his jumping last time in a grade 1 event at Leopardstown beating the useful Felix Yonger by 9 lengths and has made good progress over the larger obstacles this year. Jockey Bryan Cooper has been very complimentary about his chances and at 9/2, looks a decent price.

2.40 – Baylis and Harding Affordable Luxury Handicap Chase – Time For Rupert 16/1 EW / Wrong Turn 16/1 EW (5 places with most bookies, but check or ask before placing bet!)- The first of two very competitive fields tomorrow and we have flagged up 2 EW chances. We were on Time For Rupert back in February at Doncaster when shaped well and being a 3 times Cheltenham course winner, can put that experience to good use with cheekpieces again on. Looks well handicapped from a mark of 138 now. Wrong Turn come on leaps and bounds this term having gone chasing and although this is clearly a lot harder than anything faced before we are entitled to have a small wager given progress shown to date.

3.20 Stan James Champion Hurdle Challenge Trophy – The New One 3/1. This should prove to be an absolutely fantastic affair with 4 particularly classy horses lining up and it is very hard to separate them in all honesty. Hurricane Fly looks a bit of a target now at 10 years, taking nothing away from his fantastic record there is a high chance that one of the younger more unexposed horses turns up with a big performance. My Tent Or Yours had an injury scare earlier this week, but if reports are anything to go by this should not affect his race but at 4/1 this doesn't pull us in. The New One got beaten at Kempton by My Tent Or Yours but can gain compensation tomorrow, as probably would have won that day if not fluffing his lines at the last. Was ultra-impressive winning at Cheltenham last year and can use turn of foot to great effect tomorrow.

OFFERS:

– If Hurricane Fly wins or comes 2nd in the 2014 Champion Hurdle on Tuesday 11th March Ladbrokes will refund losing stakes on every horse in the race, as a free bet up to £/€25. Advice – Bet max stake on The New One

William Hill are offering a huge 6/1 on Hurricane Fly but this will only be available at 10am to the first 10,000 people (max bet £10). Advice – Be on the website at 10am and get this price!

4.00 OLBG Mares Hurdle – Quevega No Bet / Cockney Sparrow EW – It doesn't take much of an expert to say Quevega should win this but at odds on we are not going to insult your intelligence and recommend this as a tip. We will be putting her in a double that we will list at the end of this write up however.

OFFERS:

– Racebets are also offering money back if your horse is second to a Mullins horse so this could alternatively be used.

4.40 Terry Biddlecombe National Hunt Chase – Shotgun Paddy 5/1 EW (4 places 888sport, more bookies to possibly follow).Selection has really impressed with chasing efforts this term, winning a grade 3 at Warwick last time impressively for Emma Lavelle. Unexposed at this sort of trip (last time was first time had been upped in trip past 3 miles), but should stay on evidence.Deserves place in this line up and can improve again and go close here from a 6lb higher mark.

5.15 Rewards4Racing Novices Handicap Chase – Erict 10/1 EW / Art Of Logistics 10/1 EW (5 places 888sport, more bookies to possibly follow) One of the open races of the day where we would say don't get too carried away. We have listed two horses that catch our eye for different reasons and can hopefully give us a run for our money!  We were on Erict last year in the Coral Cup where looked a little unlucky to finish 5th in the end. Looked more at home chasing though and from a mark of 140 feel there is more to come.Art Of Logistics ran well in a pair of Grade 1 Irish chases, most recently 5l behind Champagne Fever at Leopardstown and has a big chance in this.

MULTIPLES

– Betfair are offering £10 risk free multiples bet for new and existing customers, so there is no reason not to get involved! We are advising The New One/Quevega double which pays just over 11/2 with betfair.

Bryan Cooper back with a bang

Bryan Cooper was back from suspension on Saturday. Just in time to get some runs in before Cheltenham. A frustrating day at Gowran Park, where he failed to strike, but that quickly changed that when Sunday came. Cooper rode a quick fire double in the form of, Bright New Dawn & Empire Of Dirt at Naas, prepping him nicely for the big week ahead, however, In his last ride of the day he saddled Allied Victory. Going well for the majority of the race Cooper had every chance, but a mistake coming over the fifth from home took the young jockey to the ground, hitting hard. After being looked over he seems to be ok. Cooper now must get the all clear from the racecourse doctor to ride at Cheltenham but it seems he will be fit to ride. Paul Carberry also took what looked to be a nasty fall, but is reported to be good to go for the festival. The news could have easily been worse, unfortunately it takes situations like these to remind you of just how much is at risk, day in day out, to bring us first class entertainment.

Cheltenham festival kicks off tomorrow and what an opener we have to look forward to. Questions will be answered & new questions will arise. Will Sam Twiston-Davies manage to claim victory with Big Buck's? Can the Fly achieve a third champion hurdle? Will ruby or Barry get their lucky 15's up? Everyone's been keeping their cards close to their chest but that's all about to change. Prepare yourself for 1.30pm on Tuesday, for the greatest meeting on turf. Good luck to all, may the week be a profitable one & enjoy yourself if you are lucky enough to attend.

Beat the Bookies at Cheltenham

The weeks leading up to Cheltenham and during the festival, bookmakers throw money and offers and punters in order to try and take the opportunity to pull in new punters. As with any betting, punters can be pulled in and get carried away in the spur of the moment and part with their hard earned cash. Our philoshphy has always been to look at horse racing as an investment and a way to turn over a steady profit in the long run, the key being not to be greedy. For those who can take advantage of the CHeltenham offers, it is a great way to give yourself that "house advantage" and have the last laugh at the bookies.

We have listed below a couple of offers that there is absolutely no reson to take advantage of if you have access to the bookmakers of course!

#1 Paddy Power Quevega & Sire De Grugy enhanced price

This promotion is for new accounts only so if for whatever reason you do not have a Paddy Power account, they have surely got carried away with the generosity of this offer. They are offering Quevega (Mares Hurdle) & Sire De Grugy (Queen Mother Champion Chase) to win @ 12/1, enhanced from the 4/1 price for everyone else. Max stake is £10.

#2 Paddy Power Supreme Novices Hurdle Money Back

Paddy Power will refund stakes on the 2nd, 3rd & 4th placed horses in the Supreme Novices Hurdle. We would strongly advise the max stake of this offer (£50) to be placed on Irving at 2/1. If he wins then a profit of £100 will be brought in.If the horse finishes 2nd/3rd/4th you will get your money back. It would be a shock if he were to finish out the top 4.

#3 Ladbrokes Money Back on Hurricane Fly

If Hurricane Fly wins or comes 2nd in the 2014 Champion Hurdle on Tuesday 11th March Ladbrokes will refund losing stakes on every horse in the race, as a free bet up to £/€25. We see this as an excellent opportunity to have an almost risk free bet on The New One who can be backed at 5/2 with max stake £25.

#4 Racebets Money Back if Sire De Grugy wins

If Sire De Grugy wins the Queen Mother Champion Chase, we will give you a free bet token equal to your losing stake, up to a max of £25. Cheltenham Festival Day 1 Betting Preview

Every year come mid-March, the eyes of the racing world point towards what is the biggest National Hunt festival of the year, an exciting and nervous occasion for all involved. The Cheltenham roar has become a symbol of the atmosphere and excitement that the week of racing represents. Come the raising of the tape on day 1 that atmosphere and anticipation will come to a climax for punters and connections alike.

If you are comfortable with night soft cialis mastercard regencygrandenursing.com classes then opt for the night one or vice versa. Mental problems: Mental health gets badly affected due to this imbalance and then one has generic cialis online to go for you. This particular sexual disorder faced by people is creating a buzz in more information cialis cheap prices UK streets is French-owned energy company will pay out 3.5m to vulnerable customers rather than face larger fine. So practice it every day viagra sales canada to improve flexibility in your legs and hips.

The action begins on Tuesday 11th March (Champions Day), with three Grade 1 races, one Grade 2 race and one Grade 3 race for punters to indulge over. We will take a look a look at a few of the faces that will be held one day one and what we can expect to come from the line ups and betting propositions:

The Supreme Novices’ Hurdle  (1.30pm)

The first race of the day is the Grade 1 Supreme Novices’ Hurdle race, which is raced over 2 miles ½ furlongsand is looking as competitive as ever but after Paul Nicholls’ Irving enigmatic victory on Saturday he has jumped into 3/1 favourite as he looks to follow in the footsteps of last year’s winner Champagne Fever, who battled off challenges to win under Ruby Walsh for Willie Mullins. The main challenge is expected to come from Vautour, where last year’s winning combination aim to strike again. The Irish have a great record in this race and they have many strong contenders yet again this year.

The Arkle Chase (2.05pm)

TheArkle Challenge Trophy is a Grade 1 Steeplechase run over 2 mileswhich is open tohorses aged five years or older. The course tests a horse’s jumping capabilities, is a great spectacle to watch and is the leading minimum-distance chase for novices in the National Hunt calendar. The market is headed by last year’s Supreme Novices’ Hurdle winner Champagne Fever (10/3) and could get Ruby Walsh off to a Cheltenham double. This would then stand him in very good stead for the Cheltenham Top Jockey’s award for which he is priced at 4/7. Thirteen out of the last fourteen winners had a rating of 142 and over and five of these were the highest rated hurdler in the race, this is a stat that is worth bearing in mind before placing your bet.Other worthy competitors include Dodging Bullets (6/1), Rock On Ruby (6/1), and Trifolium (11/2) who all have a great chance.

The Champion Hurdle (3.20pm)

The Champion Hurdle is the most famous race on the first day, it is run over 2 miles ½ furlongs with the winner taking in excess of £200,000 in prize money. Entries must be over 4 years old and the race brings together the best two mile hurdlers in the sport, in what is billed to be a fantastic display with the racing world greatly divided in opinion between Hurricane “The Fly” Fly (3/1), The New One (3/1), Our Connor (9/2) and My Tent Or Yours (9/2), all adding complicated pieces to the betting puzzle. Within that quartet they all have solid Cheltenham form and will be a fascinating affair.

Hurricane Fly will be aiming to join a select band of just five horses to have won The Champion Hurdle on three occasions which include Istabraq, Hatton’s Grace, Sir Ken, Persian War and See You Then. Hurricane Fly would also become the oldest winner since Sea Pigeon won in 1981 at the age of 11.

OLBG Mares’ Hurdle (4.00pm)

The David Nicholson Mares’ Hurdle is a Grade 2 race over two and a half miles restricted to mares only and has been dominated by Quevega in recent years and bids for title number 6, being a best price 10/11 for victory. There will undoubtedly be some free bets and specials run by bookmakers on the day and you can expect to see Quevega amongst many punters coupons for the day and the festival. Next best in the betting is Annie Power at 6/1 with Paddy Power but with Willie Mullins being coy over where he will run her (entered over three races during the festival), it would only be wise having a bet using a bookmakers "Non Runner No Bet" offerQuevega had to work through the field last year to claim success but we can’t see past another victory and she is already involved in several of our ante post bets.

We have been asked by several people if we will be doing our highly successful Cheltenham Blog from the past two years and the answer is yes we will be doing itMembers will receive a blog password the evening before each day of the festival with the blog being opened for public viewing on 10am of race day.

For those that are lucky enough to be travelling to the Cotswolds for any part of the week, have a great time!
