This weekend's racing was arguably one of the busiest in the racing calendar. French Champion Hurdle, Oaks, Epsom Derby & the Belmont Stakes. Hurricane Fly out the frame, 50/1 Oaks winner, Gosden supplements the winner & American Pharaoh ends the 37 year drought.
American Pharaoh lined up for the final leg of the Triple Crown on Saturday night. Another hopeful coming into the race having won the Kentucky Derby & Preakness Stakes. Victor Espinoza took his mount to the front & led. He made it look easy as he galloped the field out of contention, etching his name into the history books. American Pharaoh went one better than California Chrome did last year & is the first to do so since Affirmed in 1978. A five & a half length battering was handed out to contenders of the Belmount stakes with second favourite, Frosted finishing up in second place beating Keen Ice. Mubtaahij ran a fine race & just missed out on a place, finishing 4th. Particularly impressive I felt as Mubtaahij was one not subject to the American staple, Lasix.
